Derbyshire Gritstone Way (3)

Leader: Val

Another leg of Derby Ramblers’ Gritstone Way, this time from Ambergate to Matlock.

A long stretch along the Cromford Canal ended with lunch at the High Peak Junction.
The hilly bit then began with a climb through Bow Wood to Riber, a drop down to Tansley, and a climb to catch the X17 bus for Chesterfield at Upper Lumsdale.
A group of ten on the walk.
Val is leading the Gritstone Way walks for free, but anyone eager to complete the full journey can sign up for a seven day HF Holiday.

Another walk along the popular waymarked trail commemorating GHB Ward – a local walking activist in the early 20th century and the founder of the influential Sheffield Clarion Ramblers.

The 11 mile walk passed his former house at Owler Bar on the outward leg over Totley Moor to Longshaw.
An afternoon return to Holmesfield via Smeekley Wood for 30 walkers on a fine day.
